Mommy & Me + Milestone Session | Albany NY Baby Photographer

I had the honor of photographing this babe as he entered the world last year, so it was wonderful to be able to see him and his mom again for a milestone mommy and me session.  Almost a year old.  He was not shy at all.

I've said it before, Cake Smash sessions are not my thing.  They are adorable and cute, but not something I enjoy photographing.  But give me a baby in his own element exploring, that I LOVE to photograph.

So, I hope you enjoy taking a peak at this little guy in his element exploring with his momma!

A High School Senior Session in Virginia Beach - Lifestyle Fine Art Portrait

I can't believe I haven't had a chance to share this session.  This is my cousin!  And she's gorgeous!

During the Summer when I was visiting Virginia Beach we ventured out for her Senior Session.  Kira picked this spot out and I'm so happy she did because it was just beautiful, especially after the sun had gone done.  The light and tones were just perfect.  We also managed to get a few portraits of the family together too.

We're close to half way through this school year, Kira I hope the year continues to go well for you!  Can't believe you'll be off to College soon, it means I'm getting old.

Thacher Park, NY - A Homeschool Field Trip

If I can keep this up I will need to designate Fridays for Field Trip Posts.  Field Trip Fridays.  I like the sound of that. ;)

Sometimes our days are not going as planned and we need to hit the refresh button.  Some days field trips are planned and on other days when we just need to hit the refresh button we escape to Thacher Park.  John Boyd Thacher State Park is a beautiful park along the Helderberg Escarpment, and just recently they built a beautiful new visitor center.

We took to the visitor center, explored their model cave, learned about the history of the park, and did a little nature journaling.  And there is much more to do, so each time we can do something a little different, hike, play at the park, zip along the zip-line.  So happy to have this park so close to us.

A Day In The Life Film - Albany NY Documentary

I've felt a little uninspired lately and what better way to find a little inspiration then to look at my children.  Maybe trying out some filmmaking by videoing our days homeschoolingI I can get out of this little rut.  I get asked about homeschooling often and so in case you have wondered what our day looks like homeschooling, I crammed our day into a minute long video.  It's obviously not everything, but my kids enjoyed it as much as I did.

Let me know what you think!

Delmar Documentary Newborn Story

I always get a bit nervous and excited when I photograph the family of a fellow photographer, especially one as talented as Danielle.  This was really my first full documentary session and I loved how laid back it was.  What I also enjoy during newborn sessions is getting the chance to hear the baby's birth story.

If you're interested in a documentary session here is a peak into baby Atlas's story.  And I highly recommend checking out Danielle's beautiful work.  www.instagram.com/iamdanimari

Colonial Williamsburg - A Homeschool Field Trip

It's been a long time since I have visited Colonial Williamsburg, I can't remember the last time.  So on a recent trip down to Virginia Beach I took the kids west and we went on a field trip.  This year Holly and Sophie's studies cover Colonial Times so it was a perfect trip.

It was a beautiful Tuesday afternoon, hotter then I was expecting.  Colonial Williamsburg was a lot more walking then I remembered, making us a hot sweaty mess, but we enjoyed ourselves.  So much to see and we didn't cover it all.  I know now it's important to check the day of the week you are going because not all exhibits are open every day.  The 2 restaurants opened were packed so we hit up the bakery, grabbed some sandwiches and drinks to go, and sat down at a picnic table.  It was perfect!

There was also only strawberry ice cream to be found in Colonial Williamsburg so we took an even longer walk to the shopping district to hit up a Baskin Robbins.

One Year Old Twins, A Family Session - Clifton Park NY

1 year old cake smashing sessions are not for me and for that reason I don't offer them, but that doesn't mean I don't LOVE photographing milestones.  It is so fun to see the little newborns I first photographed crawling, and walking, and talking...  I had a couple of milestone sessions recently and I'm so excited to share them here with you, after a little lag in posting.

These baby girls have such fun personalities.  They came home from the hospital on heart monitors, but have grown to be two beautiful and healthy little girls.

In Home Lifestyle Newborn Session | 2 Week old Newborn Photography

Being invited into a family's home to document a new chapter in their life is beyond amazing and heart warming.   Bringing home your first baby is pretty momentous as you do many things for this newborn for the very first time.  Of course every baby is amazing, but with #2 or 3, or in my case 4, you've done it before and kinda know what to expect :).

This little newborn boy at less then 2 weeks was so full of smiles.  And his Big Sis didn't mind sharing all the attention.  My favorite shots tend to be the unscripted newborn moments!  Stretched legs, smiles, cries, changing time, & feeding time.  I hope you enjoy looking through this baby boys gallery as much as I enjoyed spending time with this beautiful family!

Love & Support - A Birth Story

eeekkk!  I am so excited to share this Birth Story with you.  A day after last months post about waiting patiently, my client went into labor!

It is definitely hard for some people to understand why on earth I would want to document a Birth...  I wish I had the words to explain for me how amazing it is.  Not only how amazing it is to witness a new life being brought into this world but also to witness how much love and support there was for this momma and baby.  I hope that you are able to see the love in these images!  It's what I strive for!

Waiting Patiently

As I wait patiently for a client to go into Labor (she's due next week), I thought I would share more from a July Birth Story.

This momma waited patiently as her due date came and went.  I have to remind myself that a due date is only a guess, I remember reading once that only 2% of births actually happen on their due date.  Out of my 4, my second came on her due date, I remember being in the car when my best friend called to say Happy Due Date Day and I got to tell her that I was in labor and headed to the hospital.

Back to this momma.  She waited long and patiently but it was all worth it when she delivered a beautiful baby girl!

Upstate Fall Family Session

I used to hate photographing families…  I was always trying to pose families, pose after pose in one session.  I would go home, upload the session, and dread editing.  My thought was I’m just not a family photographer and I’ll stick to the newborns…

BUT…  Something happened.  When I let go of the perfection, focused on connection and emotion I fell in LOVE with photographing families.  I do try and get that one photograph all mommas want of everyone looking at the camera, but I don’t let that take over the session.   Once that is out of the way I follow the children and focus on their connections with mom and dad and as siblings and I just let go.

Now when I leave a session, I have a feeling of relief, because I know I'm going to fall in love with the gallery.  And did I ever fall in love with this session; A gorgeous family and a backdrop of gorgeous fall colors.  Enjoy a look at my favorites!

Love for Click Away

Weeks ago I travelled to Seattle, Washington to attend the 3rd annual Click Away Conference put on by Click & Co.  This was my 3rd time attending Click Away.  I haven’t missed one and God willingly I never will.

Each year I find this event getting even better and better!  And here are my 4 reasons why:

1.  The amount of talent brought on to speak and teach is absolutely amazing.  Each one of the Photographers, Artists, Creatives that I had the pleasure seeing speak or teach touched my heart and soul.  Not one disappointed and each and every one inspired me to go and create and to let go of perfection.   The conference offers a variety of both talks and boutique shooting sessions, and I find the talks to be just as valuable as the boutique shooting sessions.

2.  The excitement I had for getting on the plane and heading to Seattle to reconnect with the many friends I have met a long the way.  Some I didn’t even get a chance to see, it was so busy.  Many of these friends I would not have met had I not been a part of the Click & Co Forum, Clickinmoms, or conference.

3.  You can tell that Click & Co really listens to the feedback from conference goers.  Making changes each year to the schedule to allow for time to check out all the great vendors, fuel up on food, and mingle with the friends we’ve made.

4.  The conference has given me the time to explore myself as a photographer and artist.   Inspired me to push myself and to let go of imperfections, to not let fear take over.

So with all that said here is some of what I captured in Seattle.

These photos are from a walk around the Seattle Center for the boutique session with Photographer Jennifer Carr (Uncovered Beauty).  I love Jennifer and her gorgeous work and what I especially love about her is she's from my hometown!!

These photos are from the boutique session with Jessica Thomason and Lacey Monroe on documentary photography.

A quick night trip to the Public Market.  And day trip to Bainbridge Island.

My roommate and I both left late in the day of Columbus Day.  Before we headed to the airport we thought we'd take a little trip to Chinatown.  What was supposed to be a quick 6 minute ride on the bus turned into 10 minutes and only 2 blocks.  We decided to get off the bus and see what the delay was.  A Protest by Native Americans.  We followed them for a couple of blocks, and I found myself to be moved so much by this peaceful protest, it brought tears to my eyes.

A Little Late | Lifestyle Newborn Photography

A beautiful genuine family on the blog today.  This session was almost a year ago.  Why have I waited so long you ask?  Well I hated my blog.  I wasn’t looking forward to sharing my work because I wasn’t happy about my site design..  Now that I have re-branded and I’m showing what makes me happy as a photographer I am so excited about blogging and writing…

I’m also afraid of writing.  I feel that I’m not a writer and so why am I doing this.   I hear a lot “just write like you talk”.  Hopefully with stepping out of my comfort zone, you will enjoy following me on this journey.  And maybe you’ll feel as you read this that I’m sitting next to you chatting away!!

So now, back to this family.  This mom contacted me to photograph her baby newborn boy.  Since then I have worked with her 2 other times.  I love when clients hire me over and over.  It is a true compliment, and something I hold dear to my heart.

This little boy has 2 older siblings, who I found right away to be so caring and loving of him.  They will be super protectors I’m sure of that.  In august I photographed Gus’s blessing and I can’t wait to share how much he has grown.

Till Then With Love, E

I'm Back

I have been putting off updating my blog/site for about 5 months.  Why I waited so long I don't know because it was so easy now that I'm using Squarespace.  I also realized as I was updating and transferring information that it has been almost a year since my last post.  If anyone is following, I apologize!   I'm motivated and kicking myself in the butt to get me moving and I hope if you aren't following along you will now.

I hope to not only post about my clients but also more about my family and our adventures in homeschooling.  Something we are doing for the first time this year.  eeekkkk!

Since no post is good with out some pictures I'm going to share a recent outing we took with a new row boat and canoe.  This little lake not too far from our home was gorgeous with the fall colors.  And so quiet, well except for my children of course.  Not too many pictures out on the lake, I wasn't sure how sturdy I'd be in the canoe and I didn't want to drop it.  Which brings me to my last thought, being out on the lake in the canoe made me miss my paddling days in Virginia Beach as a part of the Sandbridge Outrigger Canoe Club.

Fall Family Session Favorites

Today I wanted to share a few of my favorites from a recent family fall session. It was so hard to only share a few here, I LOVED EVERY SINGLE ONE. My favorites always seem to be the ones with the momma in them, motherhood is so beautiful, and I want to show that to my clients! blog elble-1blog elble-2blog elble-3blog elble-4blog elble-5blog elble-6blog elble-7blog elble-8blog elble-9blog elble-10blog elble-11blog elble-12blog elble-13blog elble-14blog elble-15blog elble-16blog elble-17blog elble-18blog elble-19blog elble-20

Baby Stretches & Family Hugs

This family has been with me since I started my newborn photography journey. After doing a posed newborn session for their 2nd child I went back at 2 months old to capture some more lifestyle moments and moments of motherhood. Baby stretches, snuggles, breastfeeding, and ended on a big family hug!

Frosty Morning

Being a beach girl the summer has always been my favorite season. But living in NY I have come to love all the seasons God created and really appreciate the gifts and beauty each one offers. The other morning I woke up, and as I was letting the duckies out the coup I thought, ugh... Frost. As I'm walking back from the bus stop, the golden morning sun sparkling on the frosty grass I thought, ohhh... Frost... I quickly grabbed my camera and macro lens and set out around the yard before my 2 littlest ones woke up!

A Boy and his Momma - 1 Year Milestone Session

Karsten's momma asked me to do a 1 year milestone session for her little boy. Cake Smash sessions aren't much my thing and hers either. So we decided to forgo the messy cake smashing to just document his stage and his mommas LOVE! Although a little chilly that evening we had a beautiful setting!
